Deadly explosion, fire in Kingsford
Electric bicycle is reported cause
KINGSFORD — A Dickinson County resident and several pets died in a house fire after an electric bicycle reportedly exploded inside the home on Tuesday night.
Kingsford Public Safety (KPS) was dispatched to 109 Balsam St. at 11:21 p.m. for a report of an explosion.
When responders arrived on scene, the residence was an active structure fire, with one victim being reported trapped inside, according to a KPS press release. The victim was later pronounced dead. The name is being withheld pending completion of the investigation.
Two other occupants of the home were able to escape.
The Michigan State Police Fire Marshal was contacted and will be assisting KPS with the investigation.
Also responding to the incident were Dickinson County Sheriff Department and Dispatch, Iron Mountain Fire Department, Integrity Care Ambulance, Iron Mountain Police Department, WE Energies and DTE Energy.
