Tweet Garot Mechanical expands to UP; acquires Prime Specialty Contracting
ESCANABA – Tweet Garot Mechanical, a long-standing mechanical contracting firm from Wisconsin, has acquired Prime Specialty Contracting, a full-service mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and custom metal fabrication contractor with offices in Marquette and Escanaba.
Under the management of founder Cory L. Bushong, Prime has been operating since 2019, “bringing top-quality craftsmanship and reliable service to homeowners and businesses across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula,” as their website says. The Marquette-headquartered business has been well-reviewed by the public for its technicians, service, prices and responsiveness.
Its purchase by Tweet Garot was announced at the end of February. Bushong will continue to remain with the company “permanently” to lead his team of approximately 90 employees, Tweet Garot declared.
“I’ve known Prime’s founder Cory Bushong for many years, and I’ve watched him build something truly unique,” stated Tweet Garot Chairman and CEO Christopher Howald. “In just six years, Cory and his team have built a business and a culture that stand out in this industry. We didn’t pursue Prime because of geography alone — we pursued them because of the people, the reputation, and the values they’ve established. Together, we believe we can create the dominant destination for both employees and customers in Upper Michigan.”
The acquisition helps Tweet Garot enter Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The Green Bay-based company, which began as Edw. Garot & Son Plumbing and Heating in 1897, has several Wisconsin locations, one in Arizona, and one in Traverse City, Mich. Regarding the latter, it was in October that Tweet Garot acquired Temperature Control Inc. in Traverse City as its first step into Michigan.
Prime Specialty Contracting, with locations at 5651 17.4 Rd. in north Escanaba and 902 W. Baraga Ave. in Marquette, operates through three divisions — Prime Mechanical Contracting, Prime Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, and Prime Welding & Fabrication. They presently serve residential, commercial, and industrial clients throughout the Upper Peninsula.
Both the Marquette and Escanaba facilities will remain open and in full operation, Tweet Garot said.
“When I started Prime in 2019, the goal was always to build something our team and community could be proud of,” stated Bushong. “Partnering with Tweet Garot gives us the resources,
technology, and scale to take that vision even further — without changing what makes us who we are. I’m excited for what this means for our employees, our customers, and the Upper Peninsula.”
When asked whether Prime’s name would be changed to reflect the new ownership, the Press was told that rebranding would be a gradual process and that the website was being revamped.
“We are working through a transition plan for Prime to be rebranded as Tweet Garot; however, I will say that this will take place over a period of time. No branding changes have been made at this time, as this will be a gradual process,” said Marketing Coordinator Nicole Edge.
“The synergies between our organizations are natural,” said Tweet Garot President and COO Hope Voigt. “We share the same commitment to culture, employee development, and customer relationships. With Prime’s deep roots in the U.P. and Tweet Garot’s resources and technology platform, we’re positioned to offer something no one else in the region can match.”
