Mackinac Bridge traffic stop leads to illegal weapons discovery

MACKINAC BRIDGE — A semi-truck driver was arrested Wednesday on the Mackinac Bridge after Michigan State Police (MSP) discovered multiple illegal weapons and other violations.

At approximately 6:48 p.m. Wednesday, a Motor Carrier Officer (MCO) from the MSP St. Ignace Post observed a semi-truck that was hauling a trailer speeding and operating in a hazardous manner, according to a news release. The officer initiated a traffic stop for the violations.

Upon contact, authorities determined the driver had an active warrant for his arrest and took him into custody without incident.

A subsequent investigation revealed the driver was in possession of multiple illegal weapons and did not have a Concealed Pistol License (CPL).

The following items were seized:

– Fifteen double-edged knives, including three equipped with brass knuckle handles;

– Two throwing stars, each with four double-edged sides;

– Two additional sets of brass knuckles, including one spiked set;

– Five loaded pistols;

– One loaded rifle;

– One shotgun; and

– One large double-edged sword with a 32-inch blade.

Authorities also found the driver to be in possession of two open containers of alcohol.

Further inspection of the commercial vehicle indicated the driver had allegedly falsified his electronic logging device records.

The driver, identified as 54-year-old Eric Koroscik of Kingwood, Texas, was arrested and lodged at the Mackinac County Jail.

Koroscik was arraigned Thursday in the 92nd District Court in Mackinac County on one count of carrying a concealed weapon. He was issued a personal recognizance bond.

According to the news release, additional charges are being sought for other applicable violations. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 10.

MSP was assisted by the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Ignace Police Department.
