Young Pembine family affected

ESCANABA — One person was pronounced dead at the scene and three others were transported for medical treatment after a fire broke out at a residence in Pembine, Wis. on Tuesday.

Marinette County Dispatch received a call at approximately 6:08 a.m. on March 17, alerting them of a residential structure fire on Holmes Junction Road in the Town of Pembine.

The Beecher Dunbar Pembine Fire Department, Amberg Fire Department, Beecher Dunbar Pembine Rescue Squad, Wausaukee Rescue, Integrity Care EMS and deputies from the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene.

“During fire suppression efforts, a search was conducted by fire members, and a male occupant was located, removed from the residence, and was pronounced dead at the scene,” read a press release from Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller.

The deceased was identified as 30-year-old Roy J. Newling of Pembine. Three other occupants of the home — a 30-year-old woman and two children aged nine and two years old — were transported for medical treatment.

“Our thoughts are with the Newling family during this difficult time,” wrote Sheriff Miller on behalf of his department.

The fire and its cause remain under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.
