Delta County Board to consider Airport Advisory Board bylaw amendment

ESCANABA – The Delta County Board will meet this evening to consider several agenda items, including an amendment to correct an inconsistency in the Delta County Airport Advisory Board’s (AAB) bylaws.

The regular meeting will be held at 5:15 p.m. in the boardroom at the Delta County Service Center, 2920 College Ave. The Daily Press will provide updates if the meeting is rescheduled due to weather.

According to the agenda item request from the AAB, the amendment would correct an inconsistency regarding the length of board members’ terms.

The 2023 bylaws currently in place specify two-year terms for board members. However, this does not reflect the Delta County Board of Commissioners’ resolution from 2006 or what the AAB described as “the county’s long-standing operational practice.”

The AAB’s 2023 bylaws state, “The voting members of the Board shall be seven (7) individuals duly designated and approved by the County Board. Each new member shall serve for a term of two (2) years.”

The proposed amendment changes a member’s term from two years to three years.

The current advisory board consists of Brian Herioux, chair; Dee Dee Anderson-Skradski, vice chair; Matthew Jensen and Kelli van Ginhoven, county board representatives; Steven Viau, Will Carne and Brad Reed, members at large; and Ashleigh Young, airport manager.

In other business, the board:

Will consider approving multiple letters of support for local townships and departments, including a request for a congressional Discretionary Funding grant to purchase a new pumper truck for the Ford River Township Fire Department, improvements to Perkins Park in Baldwin Township through a Michigan Department of Natural Resources grant and the City of Gladstone’s Congressional Directed Spending application for the North Shore Development project.

Will consider a resolution authorizing the Delta County Parks and Recreation Department to apply for a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant. The application details the Pioneer Trail Park Campground Bathhouse Development project for fiscal year 2027, which will construct a new ADA-accessible bathhouse on the south end of the campground. According to the agenda item request, the new bathhouse will improve restroom, shower and sanitation facilities for campers and day-use visitors.

Will consider a request from Prosecutor Lauren Wickman to fill the vacant Assistant Prosecutor position. Lauren Mattson recently accepted a promotion to the position of Chief Assistant Prosecutor.

Will review four Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) appeals.
