ESCANABA – A coach bus traveling to the Island Resort and Casino in Harris crashed in Green Bay on Sunday, injuring 36 out of 54 travelers. The driver of the bus was arrested shortly after the crash and was found to have both a revoked license and a revoked commercial driver’s license.

Ghebry Joe Figueroa, 38, of Prospect Heights, Ill. is charged with two felony counts of knowingly operating while revoked – causing great bodily harm and one count of commercial driving while disqualified, a misdemeanor.

The Brown County Circuit Court criminal complaint states, “Most of the passengers complained of some sort of pain, especially back and neck pain…” One passenger that sustained a broken left arm, broken ribs and an injured shoulder even told Green Bay Police she was in extreme pain after already receiving two doses of Fentanyl.

Figueroa’s criminal history report indicates that on Dec. 4, 2024, in Cook County, Ill., he was convicted of Driving with Revoked or Suspended License due to a prior Driving Under the Influence conviction. He was sentenced to two years probation.

The complaint also indicates Figueroa has non-extraditable warrant out of Texas. Figueroa posted a $5,000 bond from the Brown County Jail in Wisconsin and is currently awaiting further criminal proceedings.

The full story on this incident will be in Thursday’s edition of the Daily Press.
