Marquette Township hit-and-run led State Police to seek public help

MARQUETTE COUNTY — After a hit-and-run crash in Marquette Township on Wednesday, Michigan State Police (MSP) from the Negaunee Post asked for the public’s assistance in identifying a vehicle/ driver involved. By early Thursday evening, the driver had been identified.

The crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of Ontario Avenue and West Fair Avenue in the area known as Trowbridge Park. According to MSP, the driver who caused the crash fled the scene without stopping.

The other driver involved reported no injuries, but the crash resulted in significant damage, including damage to a Semco gas line marker. Marquette Township Fire Department responded to the scene to inspect the gas line and confirmed there were no leaks or additional damage.

In a press release issued Thursday morning, MSP encouraged anyone with information related to the crash or the vehicle involved to contact the Negaunee Post.

Witnesses had been able to photograph the fleeing vehicle, which was believed to be a 2013-2015 Lexus RX350. The vehicle was expected to have substantial damage to the front passenger side and center grill area. Witnesses also indicated the driver may have been an older individual.

By 5:27 p.m., MSP issued an update, stating: “The at-fault driver has been identified, and the case will be submitted to the Marquette County Prosecutor for review.”
