MARQUETTE — On Monday night, the Marquette Police Department released a statement that search efforts for missing 21-year-old Northern Michigan University (NMU) student Trenton Massey would recommence Tuesday morning.

According to the department, search efforts “will focus on the water of the lower harbor, near Founder’s Landing, based on further information received on 2/23/2026.”

Land-based search efforts also continued on Tuesday, with volunteers meeting at the Hampton Inn on Lakeshore Boulevard to receive a briefing before heading out.

NMU released a statement on Monday stating that “hundreds of volunteers showed up in tough conditions to search for (Massey). It was notable to see students, employees, alums and neighbors come together and answer the call for assistance from the Marquette City Police Department. A major portion of downtown and South Marquette has been searched.”

NMU also thanked a list of businesses who “stepped forward to provide much needed support for the volunteers,” naming Provisions Coffee, Texas Roadhouse, Jimmy Johns, SAIL, Panera, Dominos, Contrast Coffee, Trenary Toast and Baby Cakes.
