IRON MOUNTAIN — Winter skies over Lake Antoine in Iron Mountain will come alive with color and motion Saturday, Jan. 10, for Kites Over Awesome Lake Antoine, or KOALA.
Lake Antoine Park Partners will host its fifth-annual event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Central time at the park.
The four-hour community fest combines the excitement of show kites and precision flying teams with hands-on activities for families.
Visitors can rotate through a lineup of fun, low-pressure “play stations” that will include the Bubble Zone, snowball target toss, frisbee toss, giant Tic Tac Toe, community mural, photo booth and snow painting.
For those who want a bit of exercise, a Snowshoe Loop will be available. Snowshoes can be rented from the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.
Food and shopping are part of the experience, too, LAPP KOALA organizer Barb Kramer said.
Millie’s Market will be on site with food, and Route 66 Kites will offer kite-related items.
Attendees can also purchase KOALA merchandise and other items while supporting the cause.
Raffle tickets are $5 for chances to win prizes including a Trek Marlin 4-Gen 3 mountain bike, a Queen City Running Co. $200 gift certificate, and many others.
Organizers will offer a free shuttle bus from Bay College from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Children can receive free kites while supplies last.
This is a simple way to help young attendees join the fun on the ice, Kramer said.
All proceeds will benefit the “Everyone Plays!” accessible playground project at Lake Antoine Park, which aims to create inclusive play opportunities for people of all ages and abilities.
