Garage burns
WELLS TOWNSHIP — Local agencies responded Wednesday morning to a structure fire that fully-engulfed and ultimately destroyed a garage in Wells Township. No injuries were reported.
At approximately 6:57 a.m. on Jan 21, firefighters were dispatched to 3142 18th Ln. for a report of a fire at a non-residential building.
When law enforcement officers from Escanaba Public Safety arrived first on the scene, they reported that the structure was already fully-engulfed by flames. Another garage and two large propane tanks were nearby.
Escanaba Township Fire Department, Rampart EMS, Delta County Sheriff’s Office and UPPCO also responded to the incident.
The fire was “quickly brought under control and eventually extinguished,” read a press release from Escanaba Public Safety, noting that their personnel had been on the scene for about three-and-a-half hours. The air temperature was in the single digits the whole time.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The structure is a total loss.
