Wisconsin man dies in UP snowmobile crash
A 61-year-old Luxemburg, Wis., man died Sunday when the snowmobile he was operating left a trail in Gogebic County and hit a wooden post, according to Michigan State Police at the Wakefield Post.
A preliminary investigation found the snowmobile was eastbound on Trail 2 in Bessemer Township about 10:31 a.m. when the driver lost control, state police stated Tuesday in a news release. Emergency medical care was administered on scene but efforts were unsuccessful.
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to have contributed to the crash, troopers said.
“Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones affected by this loss,” said Lt. Ben Eckola, MSP Eighth District public information officer.
MSP was assisted by the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Beacon Ambulance, Bessemer Township Fire Department, and Gogebic County Victim’s Services.
