GLADSTONE – The Michigan State Police Gladstone Post is taking part in MSP’s 16th-annual “Stuff a Blue Goose” toy and food drive, with troopers again collecting new, unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items from the community to go to local families in need.

The local drive will take place 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Elmer’s County Market and Walmart in Escanaba. All non-perishable goods and toys will be donated to the Salvation Army and Toys for Toys program.

According to the news release, MSP’s “Stuff a Blue Goose” campaign got its start during the holiday season in 2009 when a trooper at the former White Pigeon Post learned there was a growing need in his community. Three other posts were involved, and the community response provided enough donations to stuff 10 patrol cars that year. The campaign got its namesake for the department’s nickname for their patrol vehicles – the Blue Goose.

“Our department is built on tradition, and the Stuff a Blue Goose donation drive is a favorite,” Col. James F. Grady II, director of the MSP, said in the news release. “With tremendous community support, we are able to help make a difference in the communities we serve. Our hope is the toys and food we collect make the holiday season a little brighter for everyone.”

In 2024, with the help from charitable Michigan communities, troopers collected more than 12,000 toys, 4,000 pounds of non-perishable food and $50,000 to support families in need.
