Man killed in Masonville Township crash Monday

MASONVILLE — A Munising man is dead after a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Masonville Township.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post were called about 3:55 p.m. to County Road 511, where a preliminary investigation indicated a commercial delivery truck had stopped at the intersection of 24th Road and County Road 511 (W.5 Road) and then attempted to continue east on 24th Road. As the delivery truck entered the intersection, it collided with a pickup truck southbound on 511.

The pickup truck driver, age 51, was killed. The driver of the delivery vehicle, a 29-year-old Seney man, had minor injuries and was treated at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. Both drivers were the only occupants of their vehicles.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones during this difficult time,” said Lt. Ben Eckola, MSP Eighth District public information officer.

The investigation remains ongoing. MSP was assisted at the crash by the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Ensign and Masonville Township Fire Departments, Rampart EMS and Pro Towing.
