Man sent to prison for child sexual material

Joshua Herington
ESCANABA — An Escanaba man will spend at least six years in prison after pleading guilty earlier this year to multiple charges that included aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material.
Judge John Economopoulos on Monday sentenced Joshua Dean Herington in 47th Circuit Court at the Delta County Courthouse to:
— 80 months to 10 years on three counts of child sexually abusive material-aggravated possession;
— 38 months to 10 years on three counts of using a computer to commit a crime; and
— 57 months to 15 years on two counts of criminal sexual conduct, 2nd degree.
All sentences will be served concurrently and Herington was credited with 240 days already spent in jail. He also was given $804 in total fines, fees and costs.
Herington had pleaded guilty to all charges Aug. 25. According to a news release, Escanaba Public Safety Department first received a complaint about him in February.
“The case demanded long hours, difficult evidence review and unwavering determination and our EPSD detectives and officers rose to that challenge,” EPSD Director Darren Smith stated in a news release.
EPSD partnered with The Delta County’s Prosecutor’s Office, The Child Advocacy Center and Michigan State Police. Delta County Prosecutor Lauren Wickman handled the case and Diane Kay-Hougaboom was Herington’s defense attorney.
“Our hearts remain with the victim(s),” Smith stated in the news release. “While the offense itself is tragic, justice was served and the victim can now start their journey of healing.”
