ESCANABA — Authorities have released details on a fatal crash Friday on U.S. 2/41 near the Highland Golf Course in the Escanaba area.

Delta County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched about 12:45 a.m. Friday to the two-vehicle crash, according to a sheriff’s office news release Wednesday. One vehicle had rolled onto its side and the lone occupants of each vehicle were both entrapped.

Deputies determined Derec Nelson, 26, of Escanaba, was deceased at the site. Thomas Murray, 61, of Bark River, was identified as the driver of the other vehicle; no information was provided on his condition after the crash.

The crash remains under investigation. The Delta County Sheriff’s Office were assisted by the Michigan State Police, Escanaba Public Safety Department, Rampart EMS and Ford River Fire.
