ESCANABA – The 17th-annual End the Silence Walk event will take place Saturday at the Miracle of Life Building, 1215 N. 18th St. at the U.P. State Fair grounds.

The annual event — a fundraiser for the Delta County Suicide Prevention Task Forces as well as to raise awareness about depression — will include a raffle, children’s activities, brats, hamburgers, hot dogs, a bake sale and more.

According to the task force’s website, “The walk, in memory of Bobby and Josh Bintner, two brothers who ended their lives by suicide, was started by the Bintner family who wanted the community to know that with intervention, suicide is preventable.”

Funds donated to the DCSPTF go to several projects organized by the task force, including billboards with helpline information, books and water bottles to spread awareness and prevention commercials for television.

Registration for the event will be at 10 a.m., with the opening ceremony and walk to follow at 11 a.m. Registration fees are $25 per adult, $10 per child up to 16 years old and $20 per person for groups of 4 or more.

To register before the event, the form can be found on the End the Silence Walk website, https://endthesilencewalk.com/.

While the event and walk are open to the public and registration is not required, a donation secures a T-shirt related to the event.

Food will be available for purchase, along with a bake sale from 11:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

As of Thursday, 80 people have already registered to attend the event, not including anonymous registered members, according to the End the Silence Walk website.

The event raised $18,000 in 2024 through pledges and donations from local businesses, organizations and registered walkers, according to the End the Silence Walk Facebook page. The DCSPTF has raised a total of more than $240,000 over the past 15 years.

Starting at $3.50/week.
