Vogelmann joins Daily Press as staff writer

I have officially been a staff writer at the Daily Press for a week now, so I figured it was time to introduce myself.
My name is Sophie Vogelmann, and I am 21 years old. I have traveled back and forth between Elkhorn, Wisconsin, and Cornell, Michigan, for several years now, but I decided to plant roots and begin my career in the beautiful city of Escanaba.
I graduated from Gladstone High School in 2022 and attended Bay de Noc Community College right after. After I spent a year at Bay, I transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater to pursue my bachelor’s degree. I earned my B.A. in Professional Writing and Publishing this past May and moved back to Escanaba to begin my job search. I ended up being hired as a staff writer at the Daily Press here in Escanaba, and I couldn’t be more excited to join the team! Everyone has welcomed me with open arms, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to write about my beloved hometown.
Here are some fun facts about me:
— In first grade, I was voted “Most likely to become a writer.”
— I’m a total bookworm! My favorite author is Jane Austen, and my favorite book is “Pride and Prejudice” by, of course, Jane Austen.
— I was born in Marquette.
— One of my favorite parts of the day is when I get to come home to my adorable dachshund, Otto B.
I am absolutely delighted to have found a position at the Daily Press! This is such a dream job to me, and I’ve already had so much fun here. I remember seeing the paper with the classic Daily Press pine trees on my grandparents’ table when I was younger, so working here feels like a very full-circle moment. I’m looking forward to getting to know so many different people in town that I might have never come across if it weren’t for this job, and I can’t wait to tell their stories.
