Active shooter drill in Escanaba
Emergency medical personnel arrive at an active shooter drill that took place Wednesday at an Escanaba school, while a school bus waits to transport evacuees to a reunification site. The junior/senior high school was the second school in the county to host such an event, which aims to prepare first responders and schools for real emergencies, test the effectiveness of planned procedures and improve partnerships. Escanaba Public Safety, Michigan State Police, Delta County Sheriff and Central Dispatch were among the parties involved in the mock emergency. A similar drill took place in Gladstone last August and more will be set at other locations in the future.
