Motorcyclist killed in Marquette County
MARQUETTE — On July 31, at approximately 5:12 a.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Negaunee Post responded to a motorcycle crash at the roundabout located on US-41 near County Road HQ.
Troopers arrived on scene and found the motorcycle badly damaged with a single male driver who had been ejected off the motorcycle. The motorcycle appeared to have been traveling eastbound on US-41 as it approached the roundabout. The driver appeared to have lost control, resulting in a crash with the roundabout berm.
Troopers attempted lifesaving measures, including CPR, prior to EMS arrival. However, the male subject was pronounced deceased on scene a short time later. The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash. Excessive speed appears to have contributed to the cause of the crash. The driver was not wearing a helmet. The investigation remains ongoing.
The deceased has been identified as a 40-year-old man from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. His name is being withheld out of respect for the family’s privacy.
MSP was assisted by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Marquette Township Fire and Rescue Department, and the City of Marquette Fire Department.
