Full weekend of Labor Day events
Several area communities are hosting events for the next few days for the extended Labor Day weekend.
They include:
TODAY
— Manistique has a Labor Day barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., complete with food, drinks and a bounce house at 147 River St. near Hoholik’s Ace Hardware. The car show, for which registration begins at 8 a.m., opens to the public at 10 a.m. Awards for the car show are presented at 3 p.m.
— The Upper Peninsula Steam and Gas Engine Association’s 50th-annual show is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the U.P. State Fairgrounds. The Antique Village will be open as well. There’s a vintage flea market and antique car show. The parade of power is at 1 p.m. Michael Gibson’s book signing is at 2 p.m.
— The 80th-annual Rock Lions Club Labor Day celebration at 14497 Quarry Lane includes an 11 a.m. parade and then live music, activities, food and beverages. There will be a bean bag tournament, cowpie bingo, a flea market, kids’ tractor pulls and more. Afterwards, at 4 p.m., the Tyler Gitchel Galloway Band plays at Herb’s Bar.
— Five miles west of Rock, the Boogie Fest Too music festival hosts Tom Katalin and 41 North, Three Wheel Drive, TC Knuckleheads, Cowboy Country Music Show and Sunset Strip. Food trucks and vendors will also be on site.
SUNDAY
— Nahma’s celebration takes off with a parade that begins at 11 a.m. from the golf course. It features prizes, a queen contest and a car show. Multiple food trucks, refreshments, raffles, kids’ games, a cakewalk, log sawing and nail pounding contests, a horseshoe competition, a cornhole competition, axe throwing and face painting will fill the Nahma Township Park. The Grand Design Band and Stonewall will play live music from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m.
— The Steam and Gas Engine show continues, again from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the U.P. State Fairgrounds fairgrounds in Escanaba.
— Boogie Fest Too’s musical lineup will feature Seth Brown Duo, Fyrbird, Reilly, Boots & Sandals and Rising Phoenix.
— The Tyler Gitchel Galloway Band plays at 2 p.m. at Herb’s Bar in Rock.
MONDAY
— In Escanaba, after a parade at 11 a.m. that begins at the marketplace on 15th Street and travels east down Ludington Street until hitting detours, the celebration continues at the Municipal Dock. Live music, a bounce house, drink tent, food vendors and golf ball drop will all be part of the festivities from noon into the evening. The event benefits the Delta County Trades and Labor charity and scholarship fund.
— The final day of the Steam and Gas exposition operates from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba.
