Escanaba officials report zoning scam

ESCANABA — The City of Escanaba has received reports of a scam targeting individuals who have applied for zoning permits requiring review by the Planning Commission or Zoning Board of Appeals.

Scammers are sending fake invoices by email, instructing recipients to pay via wire transfer. These fraudulent invoices use the City’s official logos and claim to come from the Clerk’s Office. If you receive any invoice or communication you are unsure about, contact the Planning Department immediately at 906-789-7302. You may also report suspicious invoices to the Public Safety Department at 906-786-5911.

Please note:

– All zoning permit fees must be paid before a permit is approved.

– Payments are only accepted through the City’s Utility Department.

– The City does not accept wire transfers or use online payment services for zoning

permits.

– Payments may be made in person, by mail, or over the phone.

For accurate fee information, refer to the “Master Fee Schedule” available at

www.escanaba.org.

Starting at $3.50/week.
