Officer injured in armed robbery arrest

MARQUETTE — A Marquette Police Department officer sustained minor injuries early Friday morning attempting to arrest a suspect in an armed robbery.

According to MPD’s Det. Capt. Chris Aldrich, at about 1:55 a.m. Friday, the MPD officers responded to the report of an armed robbery at the Midjim Convenience Store, located at 301 W. Fair Ave.

A short foot pursuit ensued and officers were able to catch the suspect, he said. At this time the suspect proceeded to punch an officer in the face causing injury to that officer. The suspect was eventually brought into custody.

The officer was taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of injuries and was released. The suspect was also taken to UPSH-Marquette for evaluation and was eventually lodged at the Marquette County Jail.
