ESCANABA — The last weekend in July will host the 3rd Jesus Festival. This regional event brought in an estimated 3,000-3,500 people last year. With 10 churches from various denominations, almost 200 volunteers, 158 salvations, and 37 baptisms it provided something many people are longing for, hope. Hope despite circumstances, hope for the future, hope for change. This year Missionary-Evangelist Art Thomas will be the keynote speaker. Thomas travels the United States and abroad speaking at conferences and churches. He will share from his own experiences where a journey of hope brought him through the brokenness, shame, and trauma of his past. Thomas is the author of several books including his latest, “Good News for Your Marriage,” and several documentaries including “Paid in Full.” As a man of many passions and giftings, Thomas travels the world to train Christians for ministry. He is the founder of Wildfire Ministries International- which spreads the gospel to difficult regions around the world, trains pastors, plants churches, and has even built a self-sustainable orphanage and primary school in Uganda. Additionally, he is the founding pastor at Roots Church in Metro Detroit where he can be found when not away. Thomas and his wife, Robin, live in Romulus, Michigan with their two boys Josiah and Jeremiah.

“Every year the mix of music, testimonies, and generosity brings a wholesome and sincere experience many people are craving. Last year a woman shared her story of sexual abuse which led to a great deal of brokenness and guilt from abortions later in life. After she shared and came down from the stage she was met by a young woman who could relate to her struggles and they talked and hugged through the tears. This is what the Jesus Festival is about, letting people know they aren’t alone and healing and freedom are available through a God who loves them,” organizers said in a pres release..

Overall, the atmosphere is light and fun. There will be free food by Dominos and Drifters once again. Live music from several local artists as well as a couple from Detroit area, featuring Rap music by Zav and Christ Like Kaya. Fun is available for everyone with face paint, kiddie games, fire truck, police, bounce houses (Saturday only), Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament, Marine and Air Force contests, bean bags, and more. The goal of the Jesus Festival is for everyone to leave feeling loved and blessed. For more information go to uprevivalisnow.com.
