Manistique fireworks delayed again

MANISTIQUE — The Fourth of July fireworks display in Manistique as been canceled for a second time. This time, city officials are unsure when they wil attempt to have the fireworks display.

Manistique decided to cancel the display scheduled for the evening of July 5 after rain and thunderstorms were predicted. The city of Escanaba also decided to postpone its fireworks display.

Both cities decided to hold their fireworks displays on Saturday, July 12. Although Escanaba has not changed its pans, the city of Manistique announced Wednesday its display won’t be held Saturday.

The Manistique Fourth of July Committee and city of Manistique was advised by Great Lakes Fireworks today that they were concerned about the weather for the upcoming fireworks display,”city officials stated in a press release.

Great Lake Fireworks is the firm hired to provide the fireworks display. City officials said Great Lakes Fireworks made the determination the display shouldn’t take place and the decision was made to postpone.

City officials said they will look at the rest of the season and pick an alternate date that coincides with another large public gathering.

“As soon as that date is determined, the announcement will be made,” said Manistque Public Safety Director Timothy Russell.

Escanaba’s firework display is still scheduled for Saturday.
