Escanaba man gets prison for child porn

ESCANABA – An Escanaba man was sentenced in federal court to 17 years in prison for producing child pornography.

The Escanaba Department of Public Safety announced the sentencing of Justin Jack Miller, 30, of Escanaba.

Acting United States Attorney Tina L. Nommay, of the Northern District of Indiana, announced Miller pled guilty before United States District Court Judge Gretchen S. Lund to the production and attempted production of child pornography.

Miller was ultimately sentenced to 204 months, or 17 years in prison, and ordered to serve life on supervised release.

According to the press release, the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit (CCU) received an informative tip regarding the possible exploitation of children.

The CCU forwarded the information to Escanaba Public Safety, and detectives began investigating.

Detectives determined that during August and September of 2022, while living in Escanaba, Miller misrepresented himself to a 14-year-old male using a social media application to knowingly persuade and entice, and attempted to persuade and entice a minor under the age of 12 to engage in sexually explicit conduct to produce photos and videos of such conduct.

Through search warrants, detectives determined that Miller was conducting these acts from his residence in Escanaba.

Further searches of Miler’s residence found electronic devices that contained evidence to support the original allegations.

The case was investigated by the Escanaba Department of Public Safety, Michigan State Police (MSP), Homeland Security Investigations, with the Assistance from the Valparaiso Police Department, Indiana State Police, the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the Wisconsin Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Assistant United States Attorney Nadia D. Wardrip prosecuted the case.
