ESCANABA — McCoy Construction and Forestry celebrated its new facility with a ribbon cutting on Thursday.

Attendees got to tour the facility, talked with McCoy employees, and were treated to lunch and cake

The company relocated to 6442 U.S. 2 and 41 and M-35, roughly a mile away from its old home at 1818 North Lincoln Road, in May.

The ribbon cutting welcomed current and former employees, the Delta Chamber of Commerce, the media, and Delta County commissioners John Malnar and Matt Jensen.

Also in attendance and cutting the ribbon was McCoy President Jeff Herkert.

Herkert was proud of the way the facility came together and said it would greatly benefit the community and the employees.

“We’ve been down the road just south here for a number of years. We acquired this business unit seven years ago, but they’ve been down there for 40-some years. So, (it’s) just a new state-of-the-art facility for efficiency, productivity, and workplace safety,” Herkert said.

The new facility is almost three times the size of the previous one.

“Our equipment’s gotten bigger, as you can see, and the facility just didn’t grow with the size of the equipment that the industry has,” Herkert explained.

He added that because the new location is only about a mile away, employees won’t have to adjust their commute significantly.

Because of the larger facility, McCoy was able to improve its operation with more bays and other features.

“We’ve got additional bay space and inside wash bays, climate-controlled parts area, and the shop area,” Herkert said.

General Manager Jeff Carlson extended his gratitude to the community for waiting while the new facility was being constructed.

“Thanks for putting up with us for the building process, and I think we’ve got a very nice facility to drive by and look at,” Carlson said.

Herkert echoed Carlson and said the company wants to continue to be a part of the community.

“It’s a big undertaking for us, but to be a pillar in the community, the investment was needed,” Herkert said.

“We’ve been around this community for a long time, and we want to be a part of it in the future.”
