Ontonagon man faces child porn charge

ONTONAGON — An Ontonagon man has been arrested o n child pornography charges following an investigation by Michigna State Police.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force is announcing the arrest of 35-year-old Brent Edward Mayer. Mayer was arrested following an investigation which was initiated by the Michigan Department of Corrections and the ICAC Task Force, when it was learned Mayer may have accessed illicit content on the internet. A search of his residence resulted in digital evidence being seized.

Mayer was charged with seven counts of Child Sexually Abusive Material- Aggravated Possession, one count of Child Sexually Abusive Activity- Aggravated, and eight counts of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime. Mayer was additionally served with Habitual Offender – 2nd Offense Notice, which may increase his penalties if convicted. Mayer was arraigned in the 98th District Court of Ontonagon on Monday, May 12. His bond was set at $50,000. His Probable Cause Conference is set for July 7 at 1:30 pm. The defendant is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
