Escanaba on course of EAA Air Race July 20

WAUSAU — On July 20, Wausau Downtown Airport in Wausau, Wis., will be the start and finish line for the 27th annual EAA AirVenture Cup Race, when approximately 100 unique aircraft (over 35 race classes) finish the race of more than 400 nautical miles.

The air race begins at 9 am on July 20, weather permitting. The course will include the planes flying over (and some landing) at the airports in Wausau, Shawano, Menominee, Escanaba, Manistique, Sawyer, Land O’ Lakes, Tomahawk, and Merrill.

The EAA AirVenture Cup Race provides pilots and aircraft builders an opportunity to race their aircraft in a safe and fun environment, all while promoting aviation in and over the communities where the races are held. The first race in 1998 started in Kitty Hawk, N.C., with 10 aircraft and has grown to the major aviation event it is today, drawing thousands of spectators.
