DRUMMOND ISLAND — A crash in Chippewa County results in one fatality.

According the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday, at roughly 8:48 p.m., Chippewa County Central Dispatch received a call about a traffic crash on Drummond Island.

Once on scene, deputies found a Chevy Impala that had left the roadway and struck a culvert. The car then crashed into the trees.

The crash occurred on Warners Cove, Drummond Island.

A Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office accident investigator was called to the scene.

The vehicle was occupied by young men; the driver and a passenger from Drummond Island.

Preliminary results show that alcohol and excessive speed were contributing factors in the crash, but it is still under investigation.

Both men were transported from the scene, but the driver did not survive the crash. The passenger sustained some major injuries.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Drummond Island Fire/EMS, Chippewa County Central Dispatch and the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office Victim Service Unit.
