Voters approve veterans, 911 county millage
ESCANABA — Delta County voters have approved two millage proposals that will support 911 services and fund a new county department of veterans affairs.
911 MILLAGE
Voters approved the 911 service millage 14,162 votes (72.83%) to 5,282 (27.17%). The millage will renew a millage of up to .75 mills (75 cents for each $1,000 of taxable value) against all taxable property in the county to support funding the Delta County 911 emergency telephone answering and dispatch system. The funds will be used to support the continued operations, furnishment, and equipping of the 911 system.
The millage will be levied for a period of five years, 2025 to 2029, inclusive. In the first year levied the millage will raise $1,125,000, a small portion of which would be distributed to local Downtown Development Authorities and Brownfield Redevelopment Authorities, which are funded through tax incremental funding and capture millage revenue by law.
VETERAN SERVICES MILLAGE
Voters also approved the Delta County Veterans Affairs Millage Proposal 14,259 votes (73.92%) to 5,032 (26.08%). The proposal will levy a new millage of .10 mills (10 cents per $1,000 of taxable value) for a five year period, 2025 to 2029, inclusive, to fund and operate a new County Department of Veterans Affairs.
The newly created department will use the funds to provide relief, support and assistance services to all qualified veterans and their eligible spouses and families.
The millage is expected to raise $150,000 in the first year levied.
