Friends of the Library unveil new monument sign at Escanaba library
ESCANABA – The Escanaba Public Library celebrated its 25th anniversary at its home in the city hall building with the unveiling of a new sign.
The sign is a donation from the Friends of the Library, a non-profit organization established in 1988 to support and enhance the library.
“Today, we are dedicating our monument sign to the library in honor of their 25th anniversary of their home in the city hall building,” said Friends of the Escanaba Library President Kelly Pepin.
The sign unveiling kicks off the annual National Friends of Library Week, starting on Oct. 20 through Oct. 26. The week is dedicated to members of Friends of the Library groups to promote what they do in the community and look for new members to join. Pepin said the sign unveiling is the perfect opening act for the week.
The sign has been in the works for some time, but it is finally here after shipping issues and finding a company to build the sign.
“So many people don’t realize the library is here; they just think this is the city hall building. I mean, even though it says library there, they don’t realize that it’s a public library, and with the sign, we can now advertise events that we have in the library,” Pepin said.
Pepin, Friends of the Library board members, and Library Director Carolyn Stacey were in attendance for the sign unveiling.
“If people want to donate to the Friends, the information is on the library website and their social media,” he said.
The group encourages the public to learn not only more about the new sign but also about the organization and how it helps local communities like this one.
