ESCANABA — Today is the 2024 primary election. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voters are reminded that today’s election is partisan, meaning residents must choose to vote on either the Democratic or Republican ballot. The winners from each ballot will move on to the General Election, set for Nov. 5.

Any candidates that are running as independents or under third-parties will not appear on the ballots today, but will appear in November. If candidates only filed for one of the two major parties and there are no independent or third-party candidates, the winner from the party with running candidates will be unopposed in the General Election.

Unlike races for positions, all voters will be presented with any ballot questions that apply to their community, regardless of which party’s ballot they choose.

Wearing campaign-related clothing or buttons is prohibited in polling places. To ease the voting process, voters are encouraged to bring a photo ID with them to the polls.

Voters must vote at the precinct that matches where they live — a change from the early-voting procedures that sent all voters to Wells Township. Early voting ended Sunday.
