Missing motorcyclist found dead at crash site

HOLMES TOWNSHIP — A motorcyclist missing since Saturday has been found dead — the victim of a motorcycle crash, according to the Menominee County Sheriff’s Department. Steven T. Stauch, 58, of Powers had not been heard from since leaving his Faithorn-area business on Saturday, Aug. 3. The sheriff’s department was notified he was missing Monday morning.

Deputies searched the area using location data from Stauch’s cellphone to identify areas of interest. While the search was underway, Menominee County 911 was notified of a crash scene along County Road 577 in Menominee County’s Holmes Township. They located a motorcycle and Stauch, who was dead.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by accident investigators from the Michigan State Police – Iron Mountain Post, special deputies from the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office Property Inspection Unit and Victims Services Unit and Menominee County 911.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to this traffic fatality is asked to contact the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office at 906-863-4441.
