Salmon Slam fishing derby marks its sixth year this weekend

CEDAR RIVER — The Salmon Slam fishing derby is in its sixth year and organizers are hoping to continue to see the trend of increasing boat entries, and thus a bigger payout from year to year.

Establishing the derby the first weekend in August, the Salmon Slam had 33 boat entries in 2020.

Slated for Saturday, August 3, any salmon anglers that wish to join in on the fun and prizes can sign up in person at the Halfway Bar & Grill, N8241 M-35, Cedar River, at A & K Bait and Tackle, 1616 Shore Drive, Marinette, Wis., or make payment through PayPal by July 27 at waterwalkersc@gmail.com.

Entry is $120 per boat, there is no limit on the number of anglers or rods per boat, Cedar River launch, must be in water by 5:00 a.m. CST, shotgun start at 5:15, and there are no boundaries.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st – 3rd places of best three of salmon/trout total weight. Tie goes to the bag with the heaviest fish.

Derby ends at 3 p.m.; boats must be in view of launch. Payout is determined by the number of entries and will be announced prior to launch. Weigh-in will be at the Halfway Bar & Grill with the winners announced at 4 p.m.

Deadline for sign up is August 1.

In case of small craft advisory, the event will be held the next day. If advisory continues, entry fees will be refunded by method paid.

Food and beer specials will be available at the Halfway Bar & Grill.
