HANNAHVILLE — After breaking ground over one year ago, the Hannahville Indian Community’s new health clinic and government services building is near completion. The community broke ground back in June of 2023 with the expectation that it would be completed by November of this year.
However, Tribal Council Chairperson Kenneth Meshigaud said they are expected to get the keys to the facility on Sept. 1.
“We’re really excited,” Meshigaud said.
It took a year and a half of planning before Hannahville could break ground, but now the finishing touches are being applied to the new center.
The 56,000 square-foot building located east of the Potawatomi Heritage Center, will include tribal courts, a food pantry, tribal government offices and a health, dental and vision center.
“We decided to consolidate all of the services that we provide to the tribal membership and the Potawatomi community into one location so it would be easier to find services,” Meshigaud said.
While the building may be complete sooner than expected, Meshigaud said that they are still working to figure out when they will officially open. He said that figuring out that many departments is a logistical nightmare but he has the best people working to make it happen.
Health Director, Susie Meshigaud talked about what the facility meant to the community, saying they hope to expand in the future.
“We have recently added optical services for certain populations within our community and we will be expanding to other populations in the future,” she said.
According to Meshigaud, the building is being internally financed with health center revenue and various grants.
She said that one of the many goals of the center is to be able to offer x-ray, mammography among other services.
“Having a new building and having the ability to expand in the future, helps us with bringing in more services that we can offer to our citizens and community members. And having more room to grow our current services for better access, such as dental,” she said.
In order to more adequately serve the population, the center is increasingly the number of exam rooms in its medical and dental facilities. It also has the infrastructure in place to offer pediatric dental services, a service that the center would like to provide in the future.
She said that the reaction from the community has been mixed, but she has heard a lot of positive comments about the new structure.
“People are excited to see it finished and operational,” she said.
Miron Construction Co. served as the construction manager and ISG served as the architect.
The center is located at N15756 Hannahville B-1 Road.
