Bay de Noc Choral Society spring concert coming Sunday
ESCANABA — The Bay de Noc Choral Society directed by Ann Wood will present its annual Spring Concert on April 7, the Sunday after Easter, at 1:30 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Special guests for the concert will be the Escanaba High School Chorale under the direction of Sydney Ogren, which will join the Choral Society on three pieces and present one of their own.
The concert theme is a toast to the power and majesty of music in all forms and genres. The program includes John Rutter’s recently composed “Missa Brevis” followed by an organ solo also by Rutter performed by Choral Society accompanist John Ignatowski. Other numbers include a German round accompanied by handchimes and music by Franz Schubert, Jonathan Willcocks, American composers Randall Thompson and Alice Parker, contemporary favorite Joseph Martin, and even ABBA. A Chorale Society favorite, “Musical Risotto,” will introduce the audience to a wide range of Italian music terms from “piano, delicato” to tutta forza, fortissimo.”
There is no charge for the concert but a free-will offering will occur. A part of the offering will be donated to the High School Chorale. The Choral Society presents two concerts each year, one in December and one each spring. Rehearsals for the December Christmas concert begin on Tuesday, September 10 and anyone interested is welcome to join, no auditions necessary.
