Probe of Stonington shooting is continuing

STONINGTON — Police are still investigating an incident that took place in Stonington Saturday that sent one man to the hospital after he allegedly shot at his neighbor and was struck with a tractor.

At roughly noon on March 23, Michigan State Police Troopers from the Gladstone Post were dispatched to a shared driveway in Bay De Noc Township on the Stonington Peninsula for a report of a neighbor dispute involving a firearm.

Upon arrival, troopers learned two neighbors who shared the driveway had an argument over its maintenance. The suspect, a 67-year-old man, produced a baseball bat and a revolver. He fired multiple rounds at his male neighbor during the dispute.

None of the rounds struck the suspect’s neighbor. The neighbor used a small tractor to defend himself, and eventually pinned the suspect to the ground until troopers arrived.

The suspect was injured during the incident and was transported to UP Health Systems Marquette for treatment. According to an update released by the Michigan State Police Wednesday, the man is still hospitalized.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Gladstone Post at 906-428-4412.
