Kiwanis Home and Garden Show coming April 12-14

Courtesy photo Presentations by Michigan State University Extension’s Master Gardeners have been a staple of the Escanaba Kiwanis Home and Garden Show.

ESCANABA — The U.P. State Fairgrounds will again see an event that has brought together businesses and attendees from around Delta County and beyond, organized by the Escanaba Kiwanis Club. The Home and Garden Show of 2024 will be held April 12 to 14 at the Ruth Butler Building. The event’s major sponsor is American Metal Roofs of Northern Wisconsin.

The Kiwanis Club is a global volunteer organization with the mission of being a positive influence on communities, especially for the benefit of children. Throughout the three-day event, a “scavenger hunt” that families can pick up from the Kiwanis booth upon arrival encourages kids to interact with the various booths as they make rounds with their guardians.

“The Home and Garden Show is an opportunity for people to get connected with vendors in the springtime,” said Kiwanis Board Member Mike Markwell, who coordinates with vendors for the show.

Free for the public to attend, the event gathers vendors mostly geared around improving households and yards. There will be demonstrations from the Michigan State University Master Gardeners throughout the weekend, and booths will host distributors of a variety of products and companies specializing in home improvement. Kiwanis was still looking for artists interested in participating when the Press spoke with organizers earlier this week.

One element that’s been part of the Home and Garden Shows for years and returns this time around is the pancake meal. Volunteers with the Kiwanis Club will be cooking up pancakes from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday becomes “Family Night” from 4 to 7 p.m., offering karaoke for kids, dancing, and complimentary snacks for children 12 and under.

Markwell said that new vendors may continue to register so long as booth space is available. Forms are found on the website at escanabakiwanis.org. Questions may be directed to (906)786-6013.

Home and Garden Show hours for public attendance are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 12; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 13; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 14.
