Despite lack of snow, Trenary Outhouse Classic still on for today
TRENARY — A truly unique Yooper tradition continues this year with the 31st Trenary Outhouse Classic on Feb. 24.
Held on the last Saturday in February for the past three decades, this event showcases contestants’ creativity and speed as they race their homemade outhouses mounted on skis down Trenary’s Main Street.
Each two-person racing team will compete for a cash prize for first and second place, with additional categories and prizes for participants besides the best racing time. The event’s theme varies from year to year, giving participants a chance to deck out their outhouses as simply or extravagantly as they desire.
Attendees can also participate in the annual fur hat contest for another cash prize as they ward off the winter chill.
Numerous vendors and sponsors will be on site to contribute to the festivities and official merchandise will be available at the Trenary Outhouse Classic Souvenir Shop.
The races are divided into seven age categories ranging from five to 50-plus years old. Race registration is $20 for the youngest three age categories (ages 5 to 17) and $40 for all categories 18 and over. Registration starts at 11 a.m. with races beginning at 2 p.m. For more information or for a registration form, visit www.trenaryouthouseclassic.com.
