Child injured in fire remains hospitalized

BARK RIVER — Limited information has been released on a weekend fire that destroyed a Bark River home. A child was injured due to the blaze and remains hospitalized, according to an organization raising money for the family..

The fire was reported Sunday at 10:25 a.m. at 1550 Old US 2 and 41. The initial report was the home was engulfed in flames with a person possibly inside. When Bark River Township Fire Department firefighters arrived at the scene, they determined the person was no longer in the residence.

Firefighters made an aggressive attack, knocking down the blaze. The fire was quickly brought under control. Firefighters remained on the scene for three hours mopping up and checking for hot spots.

According to a website raising funds for the family that lost their home, a child suffered injuries in the fire and remains hospitalized at Wisconsin Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee.

Assisting the Bark River Township firefighters were Delta County Central Dispatch, Menominee County Central Dispatch, Michigan State Police – Gladstone Post, Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Menominee County Sheriff’s Office, Hannahville Tribal Police Department, Ford River Fire Department, Harris Township Fire Department, Gourley Township Fire Department and the American Red Cross.
