FORSYTH TOWNSHIP -- No one was injured Friday when a small-engine airplane made an emergency landing on Highway M-49 in Forsyth Township.
At 11:15 a.m. Friday, the Marquette County Sheriff's Office responded to an inflight emergency involving a small Piper Tri-Pacer airplane that landed on Highway M-49 and Scorpion Road. On board were pilot Ryan Alan Graves, 32, of Munising, ands passenger Mark Steven Krumanaker, 65, of Huntington, Ind.
Graves was traveling from Munising to Sawyer Airport to have unrelated scheduled maintenance. During the flight, Graves started having engine issues and was unable to land safely at Sawyer. Graves contacted the Sawyer Tower and notified them of the inflight emergency, but his only option was to land on the roadway.
No damage was reported as a result of the emergency landing.
The aircraft was escorted from M-94 to the confinements of the airport by airport personnel, Forsyth Township Police, and personnel from the Marquette County Sheriff's Office. Also assisting at the scene was Forsyth Fire and EMS and Marquette County ARFF.
