ESCANABA -- Returning this week is Black Friday on Tuesday, which has been a boon for downtown Escanaba businesses since its inception. 19 destinations on and around Ludington Street will be running sales throughout the day, and over $1,000 worth of prizes will be available to win. The event culminates with the lighting of the tree in front of Center Court, home to the Downtown Development Authority.
Together, the DDA and Escanaba Downtown Partners in Business welcome shoppers and merry-makers to town on Tuesday, Nov. 21 -- two days before Thanksgiving -- when a slew of sales and holiday happenings hit Ludington.
Participating in the sales will be Bonifas Arts Center, Canterbury Book Store, Dress Up, East Ludington Gallery, Gempathix, Grab & Go, Jens Gems by Peach, Leigh's Garden Winery, Lisa Ann, The Ludington Grill, The Morrison Shop, Mr. Bike and Ski, Northern Screenprinting and Embroidery, Nyman Jewelers, Pam's Petals, Shoreline Shopping Show, T&T True Value Hardware, UP Bras That Fit and UP North Roast Coffee. Heritage Limousine will be rolling up and down Ludington offering rides between 5 and 8 p.m.
In addition to what Escanaba Downtown PIB President Lisa LaLonde called "deep discounts" on merchandise, businesses will also be conducting prize drawings, with no purchase necessary to enter. Entries will gathered and combined on Friday for three additional drawings, the winnings for which will be "jingle dollars" to spend downtown in the amounts of $500, $300 and $200.
Hot chocolate will be distributed in the evening near the tree and also at select businesses during the day.
Players de Noc will be caroling from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; Esky Pops will continue singing festive tunes from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Santa Claus will be appearing from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. as activity surrounds the tree lighting, which is scheduled for 7 p.m.
