Homecoming breweries on Esky agenda

ESCANABA -- Items ranging from Escanaba's Homecoming Parade to breweries are on the agenda for Thursday's Escanaba City Council meeting.

The Escanaba School District is seeking approval to use Ludington Street on Friday, September 29 from 5 to 6 p.m., for its annual Homecoming Parade. City administration is recommending approval provided proper insurance is provided naming the City of Escanaba as an additional insured and the event sponsors provide all labor and material for clean up.

The council will also take up to items in connection with the sale of Bell's Brewery Inc. to New Belgium Brewing Company, Inc. in recent months. The company operates the Upper Hand Brewery in Escanaba.

Council is asked to set a public hearing to transfer an Industrial Facility Exemption Certificate (IFE) on September 21 from Bell's Brewery Inc. to New Belgium Brewing Company, Inc.

Other agenda items include:

– Council approval of the Service Agreement with DSTech.

– Approval of Resolution No. 23-18. Jesse Traub, president of Players de Noc is seeking council approval of Resolution No. 23-18 that the group be recognized as a nonprofit organization operating in the community for the purpose of obtaining a Charitable Gaming License from the State of Michigan.

– Approval of Resolution No. 23-19 naming the City Manager James McNeil as the designated street administrator.

– Amending the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Master Fee Schedule.

– approval of Westside Substation improvements. City administration is seeking council approval to hire EPS Engineering to provide engineering design services and provide relay panels for the Westside Substation Improvement project for the amount of $644,700. This is a budgeted project for the 2023/24 fiscal year.

– Approval of an SCADA Upgrade. Council is asked to hire EPS Engineering to provide hardware, software, and programming services for the SCADA Upgrade project for the amount of $230,090. This is a budgeted item for the 2023/24 fiscal year.
