Daily Press Senior Expo draws seniors, speakers

ESCANABA — Approximately 150 people attended Tuesday’s Daily Press Senior Expo, which featured guest speakers from Lilly Dermatology, Upper Peninsula Law, OSF St. Francis Hospital, Delta Area Transit Authority, Transition Assisted Living, Skradski Family Funeral Homes and UP Health System. The event was put on by the Daily Press, which provided a catered lunch from Elmer’s County Market. Gayle Deshambo, who had spoken at past expos on the topic of hospice, returned this year as the emcee.
Maria Christianson attended for her first time and said that she enjoyed herself and appreciated the giveaways.
“You can tell that all the workers have put lots of work in,” said Christianson. “The tables are beautiful. Everything is neat and clean.”
Some speakers have come to the expo every year. UP Health System sends a different specialist each time, though, and the expert who spoke in the RBB on Tuesday was cardiovascular surgeon Dr. David Cable, MD.
This was also the first year to welcome Lilly Dermatology and Transition Assisted Living.
Transition’s Hailey Heusinger “was very well prepared with a written presentation, which I appreciated,” said Deshambo.
The price of admission for each guest was just a single canned good. Upon entering the doors, they handed in their donations and received a goodie bag.
Pastor Jacob Hintz from New Life Assembly of God in Escanaba took to the podium briefly to introduce himself and let the crowd know that the donated goods would be distributed to Tri-County Safe Harbor and the Escanaba Student Success Center.
