Candidate forum features Escanaba, Gladstone city races

ESCANABA — In partnership with the American Association of University Women (AAUW), then League of Women Voters of Delta County will hold a candidate forum Wednesday, October 18 at the Escanaba City Hall Council Chambers. The League will host the candidates running for the Gladstone City Commission and the Escanaba City Council from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In each race, there are three candidates running for two seats. Those candidates invited to participate from Gladstone are: Judy Akkala, Brian Godfrey, and Brad Mantela. Escanaba candidates are: Tyler Dubord, Karen Moore, and Rhonda Waters.

A few days after the October 18 forum, the LWVDC directs voters to the League Facebook page: HYPERLINK “http://www.facebook.com/DeltaCountyLeagueofWomenVoters/”www.facebook.com/DeltaCountyLeagueofWomenVoters/. There you will be able to view the forum video.

The League of Women Voters of Delta County would also like to direct voters to a free, non-partisan, voter education resource, VOTE411.org. It was created to provide a personalized voting guide that includes up-to-date information the voter needs to cast their ballot, including who will be on the ballot, information about early or absentee voting and what types of identification you will need.

Vote411.org also helps voters find their polling place, check voting hours, and read tips about voting in Michigan.

“We have solicited responses to questions from the candidates running for the various local races. Voters in Delta County need to hear candidates’ positions on key issues – in their own words, without bias or favoritism,” said Ann Bissell, voter service chair of the LWVDC. “We know voters in Delta County want to be informed before they vote in the upcoming general election.”

The LWV is a non-partisan political organization that has worked for over 100 years to encourage informed and active participation in government. The organization works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influence public policy through education and advocacy.

The League never supports or opposes candidates or political parties. New members are always welcome. Contact Ann at 786-3058 or Sue at 786-9261 or HYPERLINK “mailto:lwvdeltacounty@yahoo.com”lwvdeltacounty@yahoo.com .
