Waterfront Arts Festival returns Saturday

ESCANABA -- This weekend's upcoming Waterfront Art Festival, put together by the Bonifas Arts Center, will be held at Ludington Park around the Karas Bandshell on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
Bonifas is celebrating "50 Years in the Making," and this year's festival marks the culmination of Escanaba's first ever "Art Week," which has included jewelry-making and painting workshops and culinary demonstrations at the marketplace on the 1500 block of Ludington Street. Art Week activities continue through Thursday, and sign-up is still available.
As of Tuesday, 41 vendors are signed up for Saturday's festival. The Bonifas Arts Center is planning the layout at the park, which they say may look a little different this year to accommodate everything. There will a kids' activity tent, which this year features tie-dyeing with the YES Program; a selection of food vendors, including The French Fry Factory, The Grateful Cheese, Norm's Fries, shaved ice and kettle corn; live performances, beginning with The Remnants Barbershop Chorus performing the national anthem, the Escanaba City Band from 10 to 11 a.m., belly dancers at 11:15, the Escanaba Summer Choir 12:30, additional performances by The Remnants and father-daughter duo Pink Violin later in the afternoon.
There will also be an art raffle tent; a henna artist; the "Young Artists Market", where kids can set up and sell their own arts and crafts; and of course, experienced artists with work for sale in a variety of media, including photography, pottery, jewelry, painting, prints, fibers, wood, and more.
