Stephenson man gets prison for child porn
MENOMINEE — A Stephenson man has been sentenced to two to 10 years in prison on a child pornography charge.
Mark William Koldos, 37, of Stephenson was sentenced to the prison term on a charge of aggravated posssession of child sexually abusive material, according to Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey T. Rogg.
On April 29, 2019, Det. Sgt. Jean Bellinger of the Michigan State Police discovered that an inmate at the Residential Sex Offender Unit at Oshkosh Correctional Institution in Wisconsin was receiving images via the postal service and email from Eagle Pro Photography, a business located in Menominee. Bellinger’s investigation revealed Koldos was the owner of the business and was sending photographs of children to his twin brother, an inmate at the facility.
A search conducted at the photography business revealed that Koldos possessed a collection of child pornography, including videos and still images.
Koldos fled to Virginia and was living under an assumed name. He was arrested there on the three-year-old warrant in October 2021 and was extradited back to Michigan.
“This case is a reminder of the continued danger of online exploitation of kids in our community,” said Rogg. “I encourage parents to be vigilant by being familiar with online privacy settings and by helping your children set up social media accounts. Laying the groundwork for open communication can also encourage your child to share any unusual online conversations or activities.”
