Man leads police on multi-county high speed chase

NADEAU TOWNSHIP — A Florida man led police on multi-county police chase Wednesday before being captured on a rural road in Nadeau Township. The 55-year-old man, who has ties to the area, evaded multiple attempts to disable his vehicle with stop sticks during the chase, which reached speeds over 80 mph.

The man was arrested at 8:36 p.m. Wednesday and is being charged with fleeing and eluding, according to Menominee County Sheriff Mike Holmes. His name is not being released pending arraignment in court.

At 7:55 p.m., Menominee County Sheriff’s Department deputies were notified of a high-speed vehicle pursuit on US-2 in neighboring Dickinson County. The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department requested stop sticks be put out in an attempt to stop the vehicle as it headed east, approaching the county line.

After evading multiple sets of stop sticks, the vehicle entered Menominee County at 8:06 p.m. at speeds exceeding 80 mph.

The pursuit continued in Menominee County. The driver avoided additional stop sticks placed at a checkpoint near Powers. The pursuit continued on US-2 and 41 and a number of county roads before coming to a stop on a two-track road in Nadeau Township.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was taken into custody without incident. No one was injured during the 35-mile pursuit through Menominee County.

Other agencies involved in the incident include Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Iron Mountain Police Department, Michigan State Police, Hannahville Tribal Police Department,Dickinson County Central Dispatch and Menominee County 911.
