ESCANABA -- Warm weather ushers in a plethora of activities, including local concert series. These performances are available to local residents and visitors alike free of charge.
Here is a schedule of upcoming local concerts:
-- Music Mondays is a free concert series held every week from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Karas Bandshell in Ludington Park, made possible by the generosity of sponsors and the City of Escanaba. New this year is the addition of a featured food truck at each concert. The next concert, on Monday, June 26, will feature a performance by Wingin' It and food from Wildman's Munchie Mobile.
-- Bay College welcomes Lunchtime LIVE! to the courtyard of their Escanaba campus between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the following Tuesdays: July 11, July 25, Aug. 8, Aug. 22, and Aug. 29. Each gathering will have a musical performance and be accompanied by the Taco Kitchen food truck.
-- Escanaba City Band concerts will take place Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. beginning June 21 and continuing until mid-August. The historic City Band was officially organized 99 years ago, but its forerunners began playing in the 1910s. Concerts are held in the Karas Bandshell in Ludington Park.
-- Lunch on Ludington is held in the Escanaba Marketplace, on the corner of Ludington and 15th Street, every Wednesday through Aug. 9. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch and enjoy the music of a different band each week from 11:30 am to 1:30 p.m.
-- The Escanaba Public Library hosts live music on their north lawn Thursdays from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. "Live on the Lawn… at Lunch!" takes place rain or shine, and in the case of inclement weather, alternate locations will be posted on the library's socal media accounts.
-- Every second and fourth Thursday during the summer months, downtown Rapid River becomes the site of Hot Rods & Harleys Cruise Nights. Classics are the highlight, but cars, trucks and motorcycles of all makes, models, and years may participate. The cruise is from 4 to 8 p.m. Dates are June 22, July 13 and 27, Aug. 10 and 24, Sept. 14 and 28.
-- The Gladstone Summer Concert Series takes place every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Van Cleve Park. This week, on June 22, the Derrell Syria Band plays acoustic variety music.
-- Summer of Melodies is an afternoon series, which is provided thanks to an anonymous donation from a family whose late mother loved listening to music in the park during the summertime. Though the time between performance dates is irregular, the concerts will always be held on a Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Karas Bandshell in Ludington Park.
June 17 brings We Ain't Saints playing classic rock, but each subsequent show will have a different artist and a different genre. The concerts will take place July 15, July 22, Aug. 19, and Aug. 26.
