POWERS -- North Central Area Schools has announced its top seniors for the graduating Class of 2023.
Connor Florenski, son of Kelly and Dave Florenski of Powers, has earned the title of valedictorian with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.92. Florenski has volunteered his time to help with Community Project Day activities, elementary Field Days, Youth Skills and Drills basketball, being a referee for the Alumni Basketball Tournament and Special Olympics senior year. He has served as student council representative, class vice president, Healthy Youth Coalition, National Honor Society and is the current treasurer. He is also his senior class president. Honors include Academic Excellence Awards for four years, Student of the Week, All "A" Honor Roll four years, as well as various class awards and the National Rural & Small Town Recognition College Board Award. His extracurricular activities include four years of basketball -- captain his senior year -- and he earned in basketball All U.P. Team and First Team All-Conference; four years of baseball; one year of cross country; one year of golf; and one year of football. His hobbies and free-time activities include fishing, hunting, basketball, golf and hanging out with friends. Florenski plans to take pre-physical therapy classes while playing college basketball at Alma College, then pursue a graduate degree in physical therapy.
Luke Gorzinski, son of Michelle and Leo Gorzinski, has earned the title of salutatorian with a cumulative 3.85 GPA. Volunteer activities include Community Project Day, being a referee for youth football games 2019-2022, helping with Special Olympics 2020-2023, Elementary Title One Night 2020-2022, Carney Horse Pulls 2020-2021, and many National Honor Society projects. Gorzinski has served as Healthy Coalition vice president, student council president and been a National Honor Society member since his sophomore year. He has received the Academic Excellence Award all of his high school years, All "A" Honor Roll all four years and earned the Citizenship Award in 2019. His extracurricular activities include three years of cross-country; four years of football -- where he earned 8-Man Offensive Player of the Year 2020-2022, 8-Man Defensive Player of the Year 2022, Dream Team Quarterback 2020-2022; four years of basketball, where he was First Team 2019-2023 and Defensive Player of the Year 2019; four years of baseball, where he was named All-Conference Catcher in 2022; four years of track, earning 12 All State Certificates so far and setting the school record in the 100-meter dash and the school and U.P. record in the 4-by-100 relay. During his free time, Gorzinski enjoys playing sports, hanging out with friends and lifting weights. He plans to study civil engineering at Michigan Technological University while playing football for the Huskies.
Katelyn Snyder, daughter of Vicki and Mike Snyder of Powers, is the Top Honor Student with a 3.82 cumulative GPA. She has been active in basketball one year and golf one year. She was president of Healthy Youth Coalition throughout high school. Snyder has participated in Community Project Day activities, School to Work, Hoofprints of Hope, the Community Thanksgiving Dinner six years and Special Olympics one year. Some of her honors include Academic Excellence Awards, honor roll and various class awards. During her free time, Snyder enjoys riding horses competitively, spending time with friends and family and time outdoors fishing and hunting. She intends to seek an associates degree at Fox Valley Technical College while living with her sister in Green Bay, Wis.
